Traffic, it’s all some people talk about when they think about having their own site. One of the best ways I built my traffic when I started building my first website Youthful Homemaker was donating freebies for others to use in their promotions. I hosted Facebook parties, join in to others’ Facebook parties, giving out the freebie to add value to other’s sales…the list goes on and on. Giving out freebies for others’ promotions and sales is a great way to build your relationship with other business owners, and for online business owner who is just starting out it’s great to get your product and your brand in front of potential customers.

Here are a few tips to make sure giving out freebies is helping your business, not hurting it.

1. Give out a digital product.

One of the best thing about digital products is that they can be delivered as a freebie at no cost to your business. You should be doing everything reasonably possible to decrease and eliminate expenses, so sending out a physical product, plus the cost of shipping. If you don’t have a digital product, then take the time to make one. An e-book or audio talk are great ideas.

2. Have a few products that you can rotate.

If you only have one digital product, and you only offer that one product as a free download, then the readers of the blogs you are involved with will already have your freebie will not be as valuable to the person you are giving it to. The other reason you want a few digital products to rotate is that you want people to have in interest in the product you are offering. If you only have one product that you donate for every cross-promo with other sites, many people after a time will already have a copy because of past promotions.

3. Have a product image available.

Even if it is a picture with some text you designed yourself, it is just nice for the people who are hosting your freebie to have a picture to use. That way they can show their customers what exactly they are offering.

4. Determine an estimated value.

Even if you only use a particular digital product for freebies and promos, put a sticker price on it. Coming from experience, when someone offers me a product as a bonus that is always free, it is sort of frustrating. Why bother offering a product to someone that is worth nothing? Even if your product is worth $2.99, that is better than free.

App Review: Cozi Family Organzer

I have been looking for an all-in one organizer app since the day I got my iPhone, and I finally found one I have no complaints about. The Cozi Family Organizer is a great app, which is not just for the iPhone, but also has an Android app and a web interface. It is great because I use it for each of my businesses, plus my personal calendar and such. There are two versions of the app, one is free and has ads, and one that is $4.99 and has no ads. You can also use it on their website. The app includes these basic features:

Calendar
To Do List
Shopping List
Journal

Things I Love About the App

The things that I love about the app is that you can add each family member can be added, so they can receive notifications via text for calendar items, or so that other families can keep their calendars separate while having the ability to view everyone’s schedule. My husband or I can update the grocery list, and we can keep a separate list for small grocery trips and ones to stores where we buy things in bulk like Costco. The ability to keep things separate while having I need readily accessible to me and my husband is so convenient.

How I Use This App for My Business

I have a To Do list for each business, and I can add any deadlines as a Calendar entry. When I am breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable steps, I add each step into my To Do list, or into my calendar if the task is time sensitive.

What is a Facebook Party?

Do you remember going to other kid’s birthday parties as a kid? Those parties whose moms were serious over-achievers and had party games out the wazoo with all kinds of prizes? Well, a Facebook party is kind of like that, but instead of going to someone’s house, everyone goes to a Facebook page at a certain time. Instead of having cake and other sugary foods, we have all sorts of free giveaways like ebooks, audio books, books, cd’s, mp3′s and anything that happens to be donated as a giveaway for that particular party.

How does it work?

As we said above, a Facebook party is just like a ‘real’ party, but instead of going to someone’s house, we all go to a Facebook fan page like this one. Please don’t show up at my house the night of a Facebook party, I will most likely be in my pajamas and the only party game we will have is to see who can actually keep up with all of the comments on our Facebook page.

Where is the party?

On our fan page, however all of the giveaways are hosted on our website because Facebook does not allow you to host giveaways on their website. We will post links to the giveaways on our fan page throughout the evening, so you know where to find them.

Who is invited?

How can I be involved?

There are four ways you can be involved with a Youthful Homemaker Facebook party.

Be an Honored Guest - Honored Guests come for the freebies, to see the excitement, and to hear the guest speakers. Being a guest is a great way to find out about new blogs or sites.
Be a Promoter - If you have a blog, website, or business, we would really appreciate it if you would share the information about our Facebook parties with your readers. This will earn you a special mention during the party, which means free advertising for you and more guests for us. It’s a win-win for everyone!
Be a Guest Speaker - Guest Speakers are interviewed during the party about things that relate to the theme of the party or their blog/business/whatever their specialty is. Usually we limit the interviews to three questions, then open the floor to see if any Honored Guests have any questions have questions.
Offer a Contest Item or Freebie - This is the best way to get exposure for your blog/website/ministry/etc. After all, everyone loves to try to win things and get free stuff. I usually recommend something digital like an mp3, ebook, or something along those lines because you can send as many copies out of that product as you want, but you don’t have to pay for shipping, which can be expensive. This is just a suggestion, we are by no means against things like books, DVDs, CDs, or other physical products. You are also not limited to just products. We have people who offer discount codes for their stores, interactive online calendars, and other fun items.

How can my business/blog/website benefit from being involved?

This I can describe in two words: free marketing. We have all kinds of businesses and blogs involved with our parties, so by being involved you are exposing yourself to a whole crowd of people who you might or might now be familiar with you. Plus, it’s fun!

How much is it to be involved?

We do not charge anything for involvement with our parties. We just like meeting new people, sharing freebies, and having fun in general. If you want to pay us, however, we definitely won’t refuse.

If I throw my own Facebook party, will you be involved?

We love to be involved with other Facebook parties! Even if we are busy, we will do our best to be involved with your party. I can’t make any promises, because after all, a girl does have to sleep sometime, right?
